Meet at the Car Park above Mattingley Bowl on Cheesefoot Head
There is space for 20 cars. 25 at a push. Parking is free and quite popular so car sharing advised.
Ramblers Walk Leader: Harry Mycock
Artist: Fiona McIntyre (painter)
We will walk along the South Downs Way initially and whilst absorbing the atmosphere there will be opportunities to hear from Fiona and Harry about art and the countryside. The Mattingley bowl is a most impressive spot which must have been a tense place when Eisenhower addressed troops the day before D Day and this in stark contrast to the hedonistic use for the Boomtown Festival in August each year.
For those who would like a shorter walk and to hear the initial interpretations retracing steps back to the car park would be straightforward.
The route will continue on the undulating Downs taking a very minor road near Gander Down and then further along the South Downs as we take in panoramic views and after a descent have a final climb back to Cheesefoot Head where there is sometimes a coffee van.
Event: MONDAY 12 MAY, 10am Onwards
Tickets: FREE
