Still Life: Light, Pattern and Form (Drawing Workshop with Hira Gedikoglu)
Inspired by the Scottish Colourists exhibition, this workshop explores colour, texture and composition through observational drawing. Starting in the gallery, you’ll look closely at how artists use colour to define form, before moving into the studio to work from a still life setup. A great session for developing your understanding of colour and structure in drawing.
This workshop focuses on the use of colour and texture inspired by the early 20th-century artwork in the exhibition. The session begins in the gallery, where we will examine general themes of composition, focusing on how specific paintings handle form through colour. In the studio, participants will translate these concepts into a contemporary context through observational drawing from a still life set up.
About the tutor: Hira Gedikoglu is a Turkish-born artist and tutor based in Hampshire, whose practice is deeply rooted in observation, memory, and storytelling. After graduating from the University of Oxford, she completed her postgraduate diploma at the Royal Drawing School, where she is now a faculty member. Hira has exhibited widely across the UK, with her work featured in collections such as the Royal Collection and Soho House. As an educator, she teaches in many different capacities and institutions, including the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace, and her home studio.
