Luminous Figure: Life Drawing Workshop with Hira Gedikoglu
Explore the human form through colour and light in this dynamic workshop, inspired by the Scottish Colourists. Beginning in the exhibition, you’ll examine how artists used bold, expressive colour in figurative work. In the studio, you’ll draw from observation, including a live model under stage lighting, experimenting with how coloured light transforms tone and atmosphere.
This session looks at the human form through the lens of color and atmosphere. We will start in the exhibition to study how the artists broke away from traditional skin tones, looking closely at The Boxer by Cadell. Back in the studio, these concepts will be applied to make drawings from observation. In the afternoon, We will use stage lighting to observe the impact of colored light on a live model, exploring how high-key palettes can be used in contemporary life drawing.
About the tutor: Hira Gedikoglu is a Turkish-born artist and tutor based in Hampshire, whose practice is deeply rooted in observation, memory, and storytelling. After graduating from the University of Oxford, she completed her postgraduate diploma at the Royal Drawing School, where she is now a faculty member. Hira has exhibited widely across the UK, with her work featured in collections such as the Royal Collection and Soho House. As an educator, she teaches in many different capacities and institutions, including the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace, and her home studio.
Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch, or you can purchase light lunches, snacks and drinks from The Arc café throughout the day.
