Colour in Flux: Experimental Drawing Workshop with Hira Gedikoglu
Take a more experimental approach to drawing in this workshop inspired by the Scottish Colourists exhibition. Starting in the gallery, you’ll explore how artists approached light and colour, using the exhibition as a source of inspiration. Back in the studio, you’ll work from a dynamic setup with changing light and saturated colour, encouraging a more fluid, expressive response to drawing. Ideal for those looking to loosen their style and explore colour in a more intuitive way.
This workshop explores light and color through an experimental approach. The class will gather inspiration directly from the paintings in the exhibition to discuss the exhibition's broader themes and how the artists approached light. We will begin the day by making studies from the paintings, and in the studio, we will draw from an unexpected fluid studio set up with changing light and saturated colour.
About the tutor: Hira Gedikoglu is a Turkish-born artist and tutor based in Hampshire, whose practice is deeply rooted in observation, memory, and storytelling. After graduating from the University of Oxford, she completed her postgraduate diploma at the Royal Drawing School, where she is now a faculty member. Hira has exhibited widely across the UK, with her work featured in collections such as the Royal Collection and Soho House. As an educator, she teaches in many different capacities and institutions, including the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace, and her home studio.
Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch, or you can purchase light lunches, snacks and drinks from The Arc café throughout the day.
