People have recognised for centuries that the world order is skewed against the common person and have pushed back against the status quo. These people, who once were seen as pariahs and whose actions were often brutally suppressed, can now be looked at in a new light. Their words can be re-examined and reinterpreted for contemporary times. We can always learn lessons from those who have gone before and can help make the world a better place for those who come after.
Katherine Anteney’s work celebrates the power of voices of dissent in defying conventions which historically have limited the freedoms and rights of individuals. WE CARRY A NEW WORLD IN OUR HEARTS features a set of prints made with lino, woodcut and letterpress, which explore the words and actions of people who have been viewed as rebellious by nature. These powerful messages point to historical moments and seek to inspire a different and optimistic tomorrow.
Katherine Anteney is an Artist Printmaker based in Southampton. She studied Fine Art Printmaking at Winchester School of Art and graduated in 2004. Since then, she has taught widely and continued to produce work which is held in collections both in the UK and abroad. Katherine always works in relief printmaking, using lino, wood and letterpress to make her prints.
