You may never have heard of the four artists known as the Scottish Colourists, but chances are you'll recognise some of the artists who surrounded and impacted them.
This major new exhibition places Samuel John Peploe, John Duncan Fergusson, George Leslie Hunter and Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell alongside their influential contemporaries - including Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant, Walter Sickert, Lucien Pissarro and André Derain. It also shines a light on women artists whose contributions to modernism have too often been overlooked, offering a richer and more complete picture of this remarkable artistic moment.
Bold, expressive and bursting with colour, the Scottish Colourists have long been celebrated in Scotland but remain surprisingly under-appreciated elsewhere. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see them in context and discover why they were among the most exciting artists of their generation.
The exhibition has been developed by The Fleming Collection, with additional loans from Tate, Perth & Kinross Council, Aberdeen Art Gallery, University of Hull Art Collection, Sheffield Museums, Southampton City Art Gallery and private lenders.
