Join Professor of Fashion, Dr Joanne Turney, as she tells the story of Designers Guild and its role in shaping interior design over the past 50 years. She’ll highlight the key elements that characterise Designers Guild – colour, pattern, texture – as well as their influences (travel, heritage, nature) and considers these as a means of understanding social and cultural change.  And she’ll show you how, looking at design through this contextual lens, interior design styles are also the style of our lives.

Dr Jo Turney is an Associate Professor of Fashion at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. She is the author of the Culture of Knitting (2009) and the contributing editor of Fashion Crimes (2019) and of the forthcoming In Private (2022) a book about 1970s interior design. She likes crime fiction and her cat.

Refreshments will be available in our café before and after the talk. This talk is part of our programming celebrating the exhibition, Out of the Blue.
